This hasn’t been a great year for ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ spinoffs. First, ‘Agent Carter’ was canceled despite being a consistently awesome fan favorite. Then, the plug was pulled on ‘Most Wanted’ featuring former agents Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter before the pilot even aired. However, as the old saying goes, the third time is a charm.

Following the Season Four winter finale of the first TV show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ABC and Marvel Television revealed that Natalia Cordova-Buckley, who first joined ’S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as part of Daisy Johnson’s Secret Warriors, would reprise her role as Agent Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez for a six-part digital series titled ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot’. Set to premiere on the ABC app on December 13th, the show will follow Yo-Yo as she attempts to carry out a secret mission. There’s currently no word on the length of each episode, but you can check out the preview for the upcoming mini-series (as well as the next series of the main show) below, followed by its official synopsis:

Taking place shortly before the beginning of Season 4, this digital series features the character of Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, an Inhuman with the ability to move with super-speed. As a person with powers, she must sign the recently instituted Sokovia Accords, the worldwide agreement that regulates and tracks those with super powers. However, the restrictions of the Accords are in direct conflict with a personal mission she’s desperate to fulfill, a mission that will test her abilities, her allegiances, and will include some tense encounters with our most popular S.H.I.E.L.D. team members.

First, could those “tense encounters” involve Mack and Quake? Throughout the season, we heard some stories about what Yo-Yo had been up to when she wasn’t onscreen. It sounds like we’ll finally get to see what has been going on with her. Second, the House of Ideas has already dominated the big screen, the small screen, and streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. But now that the studio is exploring the possibilities of a digital series like this, who knows what other characters could be placed in the spotlight or even introduced to the MCU on this platform? The possibilities are pretty exciting, so while we wait for the premiere of ‘Slingshot’, let us know what Marvel characters you’d like to see with their own digital mini-series in the future.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Henry Simmons returns on January 10, 2017 at 10:00pm on ABC.
