With one new detail after another dropping for ‘Logan,’ we’ve just been given our first look at Patrick Stewart as Professor X in the film and he doesn’t look to be at his best. Earlier today we had learned that not only would Professor X be sick, but that both Caliban and Wolverine were looking after him in his old age. In the film, Xavier is at the point where he can’t always recognize the most famous survivor of the Weapon X program. With his mind not being what it once was, it has clearly taken a toll on him as can be seen in the following image.

Not only does this look to be quite a pained and lost Professor X, but it is one of the first times that Patrick Stewart has actually looked to have aged since his days made famous to most US audiences for playing Captain Picard. It should be noted that it looks as if you can see a tuft of hair as well up there which seems odd with how his hair loss seems to be in direct connection to his mutant mental powers.

In the Marvel comics, the Old Man Logan timeline ended up being cancelled out even though the character himself is currently living in today’s continuity. As we’ve seen a precedent for that in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ this doesn’t need to be the last time we see Xavier though I truly suspect with whatever is breaking down within the Professor, this is going to be his final days.

Let’s be honest, as the new X-Men films are mostly with the newer and younger cast members it seems unlikely we’d ever get a full on older continuity story at this point with the original cast.

Hugh Jackman will pop his claws for one final outing in ‘Logan’ on March 3, 2017.
