reavers

We’ve known for some time that ‘Wolverine 3‘ would be based on the acclaimed ‘Old Man Logan’ storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. However, due to various issues regarding the film rights to certain Marvel characters, it won’t be a direct adaptation. That means that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine won’t be partnering with a blind Hawkeye or facing off against the Red Skull or the Hulks. Instead, he’s set to pair up with Professor X to take on a villain played by Boyd Holbrook who’s described as a “relentless, calculating, intense head of security for a global enterprise” and a mad scientist played by Richard E. Grant (who may or may not actually be Mister Sinister). But now a new rumor has surfaced that adds more opposition for our hero in the tenth movie in the X-Men franchise.

According to The Nerdist, Wolverine will be taking on the Reavers in his next solo film. In the pages of Marvel Comics, they are a team of criminal cyborgs created by genocidal mutant hater Donald Pierce in order to exterminate mutants and mutant sympathizers. Although, there’s one mutant in particular that the group targets: Wolverine.

The report also says that the Reavers would be getting an upgrade for their cinematic debut. Rather than the more well-known incarnation of the group featuring Lady Deathstrike, Pretty Boy, Skullbuster, Bonebreaker, and members of the Hellfire Club (as seen above) making an appearance on the big screen, the cyborgs will take the forms of Logan’s greatest foes. There’s no word on which villains will be included exactly, but apparently there are rumblings that Liev Schreiber could return as Victor Creed AKA the ferocious Sabretooth.

If this rumor turns out to be true, things should be very interesting for Jackman’s final go as Wolverine. Just imagine an epic final battle against the likes of Dark Phoenix, Mystique, Silver Samurai, Juggernaut, Blob, Magneto, and maybe even Deadpool. But while we wait for some official confirmation about the plot details and the characters, let us know what you think about this rumor in the comments.
