While we all know that DC’s Cinematic Universe started after Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy that doesn’t mean the actors all care as Anne Hathaway (‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’,’Interstellar’) would love to reprise her role as Catwoman. She clearly understands that this isn’t the same world but also wishes that she could somehow transition into this new one. While she was a stand out in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and gave us a unique take on Catwoman, it seems unlikely that Warner Brothers would invite any previous actor back which may confuse some casual moviegoers.
This came up while promoting her upcoming giant creature feature ‘Colossal‘ when she was asked if the opportunity came up as to if she would reprise her role.
“I loved that character and I had such a blast playing her. I’m not sure how it would work because I think the Chris Nolan chapter of the Batman story has been wrapped up and I’m part of that, but I love the DC Universe and it would be fun to take a trip back.”
With Ben Affleck‘s Batman being an older and nearly disillusioned take on the character until Superman actually did his job of inspiring heroes and got him back in the saddle at the end of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see Hathaway popping up as the character. At the very least, she would seem more age appropriate to be an older one of the Caped Crusader’s villains than Jared Leto as The Joker.
However, she understands it is unlikely to happen and will support whoever dons the cat ears next:
“It sort of goes with the territory when you accept it and receive it from the last Catwoman. I was shown such generosity from Halle [Berry] and from Michelle [Pfeiffer], and so I would do that the next time as well.”
With Deathstroke being the villain in Affleck’s first standalone ‘Batman’ movie it seens it would be unlikely for another villain to pop up at all unless it was The Joker after how much work Leto has put into the character who got about fifteen minutes of screen time in ‘Suicide Squad‘.
Do you feel that Anne Hathaway would make a great Catwoman for another outing? Would it be confusing for audiences or do would everyone just run with it? Share your thoughts below!
