Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them

Warner Bros. ended their massive San Diego Comic-Con presentation this year with a little bit of magic. After handing out wands to all of the attendees in Hall H, director David Yates and his all-star cast including Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, and Colin Farrell debuted a brand new trailer for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ in Hall H. You can check it out here, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident… were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

There are a lot of great things to say about this trailer for sure, but the most notable thing is that we get more of a focus on the fantastic beasts. In previous trailers, Redmayne’s Newt Scamander was the one in the spotlight while we got mere glimpses at the occupants of his suitcase. But here, we really get a much better look at the various creatures we’ll be seeing in J.K. Rowling’s latest tale from the wizarding world.

Another standout in this trailer is Dan Fogler’s Jacob, the first main character in any Harry Potter story without magic. Like the audience for this film, Jacob wants to be a wizard. But unlike us, he gets to tag along on the magical adventure with Newt as the Watson to his Sherlock or the Ron to his Harry. Plus, Fogler is a really funny guy, so I can’t wait to see how Yates and Rowling utilize his comedic chops.
