game of thrones jon snow

SPOILER ALERT: This contains SPOILERS for ‘Game of Thrones’ so proceed with caution.

HBO has released a new infographic for ‘Game of Thrones’ which attempts to spell out the complex relationships between the ten thousand different characters (slight exaggeration).  While diehards may know all of this from memory, it’s still handy to have a reference as the show moves forward.

You can check it out below (and save it and print it out).  Be warned, though, because there is one pretty big SPOILER included:

Yep.  The black “parent” lines running from Jon Snow, lead to Lyanna Stark, the sister of Ned Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.  Snow’s mother’s identity was confirmed in the Season Six finale.  Lyanna Stark is the sister of Ned Stark (Sean Bean).  She entrusted Ned with raising Jon before she died.

Rhaegar Targaryen was not confirmed as Snow’s father, but he is known to have kidnapped Lyanna after she became engaged to Robert Barantheon.

So this means that Jon and Sansa aren’t brother and sister, or even half-brother and half-sister, so shippers rejoice!  (Then again, it’s ‘Game of Thrones’ so it really doesn’t matter.)

It also means that, Jon Snow is related to both the Starks and Targaryens (this makes Daenerys his aunt).  Snow already has a pretty charmed life… even with the whole dying thing.  Could he also be gifted similarly to Daenerys, who is flame-proof and commands dragons?  Could he represent… y’know Ice and Fire?  Like the title of the book series?

Kit Harington, who plays Snow, expressed:

Thrones is really, at the heart of it, about dysfunctional families.”

Well, we have plenty of time to discuss these developments.  ‘Game of Thrones’ returns for a shortened season next spring.

Do these developments give you pause?  What could they possibly imply?
