Ever since Warner Brothers announced a full shared universe of movies based on DC Comics’ heroes, a ‘Blue Beetle/Booster Gold’ buddy comedy has been reportedly in the works.  Last fall, Warner Brothers seemed to confirm that one was in the works, with Greg Berlanti attached, but still didn’t announce a planned release date.

Now it seems that this report was only half correct, as Berlanti himself just revealed:

“I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property.  Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of ‘Flash’ last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now.  I’d probably direct that, or I would want to.”

Booster Gold has a complex backstory– he is from the future where he stole super powered artifacts and travelled back in time to the present, where he used these devices to become a super hero, in the hopes that this would lead to fame and fortune.  So maybe it’s a better idea to give him his own movie before pairing him with Blue Beetle in a future installment.

Greg-Berlanti-Flash-SupergirlBerlanti is, of course, the producer of The CW’s slate of DC Comics-inspired TV shows ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and new addition ‘Supergirl’.

Booster Gold had previously been rumored to be a possible contender for the time travel team-up series ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ but now reportedly Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are off-limits to the TV division, which would support the idea that those characters are headed to the big screen.

But as we know, the TV and movie divisions dealing with DC’s properties are completely separate.  The Berlanti-produced ‘The Flash’ stars Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, while the film version stars Ezra Miller in the role.

Since ‘The Flash’ movie just lost its director, Seth Grahame-Smith, due to creative differences, would Berlanti be interested in taking over this alternate version?

“No one’s discussed that with me, but I could never direct a Flash movie that Grant Gustin wasn’t the lead of.  He’s my Flash.”

What do you think of a ‘Booster Gold’ solo movie?  Can the character work without his partner-in-crime-fighting Blue Beetle?
