Dredd-Karl-Urban

When the ‘Dredd‘ film originally came out, fan hopes were very high for the series. Karl Urban looked the part perfectly, the tone and action finally seemed to live up to the source comic (unlike the strange Sylvester Stallone version made in the 90s), and everything seemed ready for an epic franchise based on a stellar comic book. And then the film was released, and despite decent reviews, it did not do very well with audiences, and the box-office was not really enough to declare it a hit. Still, studios have greenlit sequels to worse movies, but it seemed that was not to be the fate of ‘Dredd.’ Now, a few years later, fans are still very interested in seeing more stories with their favorite Judge, and there have already been many petitions and crowd-funding efforts to get a ‘Dredd 2‘ project off the ground, but it has not met with much success. Alas, it seems that the fans for ‘Dredd’ are very passionate, but they just do not have the numbers needed to really get the attention of a big studio.

Luckily, in this day and age, there are other studios who might be willing to finance such a project, which is why there is now a lot of rumors about talks with Amazon and Netflix by the executive producer of ‘Dredd, ‘ Adi Shanker. When news of these potential talks hit the internet, even Karl Urban seemed excited at the prospect, as he tweeted the following about how he would definitely be onboard.

What are your thoughts on ‘Dredd’ two being produced and potentially released by an internet studio like Netflix or Amazon? Could this perhaps be the best arena for ‘Dredd 2’ to perform due to the cult following that internet shows often gain? Share your opinion on the matter in the comments below!
