True Believers are gearing up for war in the Marvel Universe, but the fighting will not be contained to a theater near you. While the highly anticipated ‘Captain America: Civil War’ will bring the battle to the big screen, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will also be duking it out in the pages of an all-new event series from Marvel Comics titled ‘Civil War II’. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art from David Marquez and Justin Ponsor, the sequel to the 2006-2007 crossover will feature the heroes of the House of Ideas siding with either Iron Man or Captain Marvel over a new threat that looms over their world. Now, before the book hits the shelves of your local comic shop later this summer, the company has released a motion comic-style trailer to tease what’s to come.

Ahead of the opening shots being fired on Free Comic Book Day on May 7th, Marvel Comics has released a trailer for ‘Civil War II’. The video gives us the basics of the storyline while giving us a sneak peek at all the different corners of the universe that will be affected by the events of the story. As you can see, every major name from Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor to Ant-Man, Ms. Marvel, and the X-Men are getting involved. It even seems like the Guardians of the Galaxy are getting in on this action as well. You can check out the trailer below, followed by the official synopsis of the first issue:

The drums of war beat for the Marvel Universe this June, as the Earth-shattering CIVIL WAR II #1 comes to comic shops and digital devices with a jam-packed double-size issue! Or will they fight to allow tomorrow to unfold unaltered. Battle lines will be drawn. Lives will be changed. Heroes will fall. Do you stand with Captain Marvel? Or will you side with Iron Man? Choose your side!

Despite being a “professional writer”, Ben likes run-on sentences and puns far too much. Also, he will probably side with Squirrel Girl in this fight because she’s unbeatable. For more of his attempts at being funny and the occasional insightful thought, follow him on Twitter and Instagram.
