Just weeks ago, word arrived that director David Ayer was reassembling the cast and crew of ‘Suicide Squad’ for reshoots.  Initially, it was reported that these new scenes were to up the comedy quotient, especially as this news came shortly after the release of the bleak ‘Batman V Superman’ a film that almost instantly garnered negative reaction from critics and fans partially due to its somber nature.  But then, just days ago, actor Jai Courtney, who plays Boomerang in the film, stated:

“Can’t believe everything you read.  I think there’s plenty of [humor] in it, I wouldn’t say we’re going back to make it funnier. There’s some additional action stuff that we’ve been doing, which is pretty dope. Really, we’re just kind of adding in that sense.”

This indeed seems to be the case, as Ayer himself has broken his silence, via Twitter, posting:

This would seem to indicate that Warner Brothers is pleased with the film that Ayer delivered and is now offering him more money to do with as he pleases, which appears to be more action.

The ‘Suicide Squad’ trailers have excited many, but have been a little uneven.  The first few were much darker, but the more recent clips have been lighter and heavier on the humor.  It’s possible the film simply juggles those elements and the various trailers have simply focused on different tones in order to appeal to a variety of tastes.

Are you excited about ‘Suicide Squad’?  How much humor should be included as opposed to action?

‘Suicide Squad’ directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood and Karen Fukahara with Ben Affleck hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
