After the first trailer dropped a few months ago, True Believers have been anxiously waiting for the next preview of ‘Captain America: Civil War’. And though the legions of fans were appeased with the influx of stills, interviews, and concept art that has come out recently, nothing compares to actual new footage. Luckily, the wait is over because Marvel Studios dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming Phase Three blockbuster today and it’s jam-packed with some awesomeness. And rather than give more of the usual preamble, you can watch it right here, followed by the official synopsis of the film:

When the government sets up a governing body to oversee the Avengers, the team splinters into two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

There’s so much happening in this trailer! We could talk about how heartbreaking it is to see Cap and Iron Man fighting. We could talk about the Winter Soldier and all his glory. We could definitely talk about Black Widow kicking some serious ass once again. But after many meticulous viewings, let’s start with this:

Captain America Civil War War Machine

After the first trailer dropped, we all got worried about Colonel James Rhodes. War Machine looked pretty banged up in the previously released footage, but now it’s even worse. Rumors and speculation are flying everywhere about Rhodey’s fate, but we’ll have to wait until May to really knows what happens to him.

Captain America Civil War Antman Arrow

Ask and you shall receive! When people first heard that Hawkeye and Ant-Man were on the same side, they hoped and prayed that the Russos would replicate the iconic moment from the comics where the size-shifting superhero boards one of the Avenging Archer’s arrows to attack a foe. Well, it’s happening and it’s in the latest trailer! This scene couldn’t have been translated to the big screen any better. Now all we need is the witty banter exchanged between Scott Lang and Clint Barton. Start imagining those possibilities now, kids.

Captain America Civl War All Day

‘Star Wars’ has “I have a bad feeling about this,” but it looks like the Captain America movies have “I could do this all day.” The first time we heard Steve Rogers utter those words in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he was still pre-Super Soldier Serum skinny and standing up to bullies in an alleyway in Brooklyn. But now he’s facing off against one of his nearest and dearest friends. Like I said before, this whole ordeal is going to be heart-breaking.

Captain America Civil War Spider Man shield

Finally, the pièce de résistance of the whole trailer. In the final moments, Tony Stark yells for underoos and along came a spider. After many, many months of waiting, we finally get a glimpse of Tom Holland as the latest incarnation of Spider-Man. It’s a bit of a bummer that his debut sees him besting Cap, but damn what an entrance. The image of Spidey holding the shield is going to be an iconic one. Although, the thing that will have people talking for weeks will be the new costume.

Amazing Fantasy 15 SpidermanAt first glance, it looks fairly classic with some modern twists, especially the eyes, but when you look closer, you can almost see the inspiration from the wall-crawler’s past costumes pop out at you. The small, rounded symbol on the chest and the width of the eyes (before adjusting) remind me of Spider-Man’s first appearance in ‘Amazing Fantasy’ #15. The only things missing are the web wings. The sleeves and the boots are reminiscent of the 2012 ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ costume worn by Andrew Garfield, but there are also hints of the Ben Reilly’s 1996 ‘Sensational Spider-Man’ costume in the design, specifically when it comes to the exposed web-shooters. Then, of course, the eyes indicate more technological elements than we’re used to in Peter Parker’s suit, so there’s probably pieces of the Iron Spider costume that was given to him by Tony Stark in the comic book version of ‘Civil War’. The mechanical legs remain to be seen, but hopefully they kept those out of the MCU for now.

Many thought it would never happen, but here we are with Spider-Man finally in the MCU where he belongs. And in the new Captain America movie with a good number of Avengers no less! I’d say that I’m speechless, but clearly I had a lot to say about it. So instead, what do you think about the latest trailer for ‘Captain America: Civil War’? What parts are you most excited to see on the big screen? And what are your thoughts on the new Spidey?
