Superman-Henry-Cavill

Nowadays, most people look at ‘Batman V Superman’ as its own entity and the launchpad for Warner Brothers’ DC Expanded Universe.  But obviously, it’s also the follow-up to 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’ and for many months, everyone saw it as a sequel, even after WB began announcing that other DC characters would be popping up in it.  But eventually, we figured out that this wasn’t a real sequel, but another movie entirely building upon what ‘Man of Steel’ started.

Since then, WB has announced a full slate of movies, two-a-year from now through 2020.

Not on the announced schedule?  An actual ‘Man of Steel’ sequel.

Considering that ‘Man of Steel’ fell slightly short of expectation at the box office and the fact that over the years, it hasn’t really held up in fans’ esteem, it wouldn’t necessarily be shocking if Henry Cavill’s Superman and his supporting cast were relegated to the ‘Justice League’ films and cameos.

But for fans who would like to see another solo outing, there may be hope.

Henry Cavill himself recently expressed:

“I do believe it depends on the success of this movie. If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. for a standalone Superman movie. But they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it’s about finding the time, really. It’s something that I would be very keen to do.”

Indeed, it looks as if Warner Brothers has its film schedule set and the public can really only take so many superhero movies a year.  Marvel Studios also cranks out two a year, not to mention 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men’ franchise, which recently got a major jolt by ‘Deadpool’ and Sony/Marvel’s new ‘Spider-Man’ franchise which kicks off next year.

Zack Snyder, who directed both ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘BvS’ as well as the upcoming ‘Justice League’ two-parter, also expressed interest in another solo Superman, saying:

“I think if we could get a good script it’d be great to have a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.

“We’re in the process of looking at [a ‘Superman’ solo film], but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled.

Would you be interested in another solo outing for Cavill as Superman?  Or would you rather let some of the newer characters shine?

‘Batman V Superman’ is now playing.  Cavill and Synder return for ‘Justice League – Part One’ on November 17, 2017.

Jason wouldn’t mind another Superman movie… just maybe with a new director.  You can follow him on Twitter.
