Spawn-Movie-Reboot-Update

It feels like it’s been a couple years so Todd McFarlane has once again decided to give an update on the never-seems-like-it-is-going-to-happen ‘Spawn‘ reboot. When the original movie adaptation of the comic dropped in 1997 it suffered from a world that wasn’t quite in love with comic book films, plotting details, and a variety of other problems. It wasn’t necessarily a bad movie visually but without the R Rating that the character deserved, it felt like a gutted version of the source material.

Thankfully after the success of ‘Deadpool’ it seems that McFarlane once again has decided to share that a modern reboot could happen. Of course, this also seems to get brought up every couple of years though this time he does have a finished script to share with a studio. The problem is we haven’t heard of a studio or director interested in developing the film. With a script that has been cut down from 183 pages to 132, the latest news is that McFarlane believes that casing could begin soon.

While no one has officially signed on board, this video he posted on his Facebook page does seem to indicate that everything is lined up for the film to move forward:

Of course, we’ve been promised a rebooted ‘Spawn’ movie or television series quite a few times over the years so I wouldn’t get my hopes up too high quite yet. For many though his last update prior to this one may have steered away interest from many of the older fans as he described the story as:

“I’d put it more into the horror/suspense/supernatural genre. If you take the movie The Departed meets Paranormal Activity, something like that…In the background, there’s this thing moving around, this boogeyman. That boogeyman just happens to be something that you and I, intellectually, know is Spawn. Will he look like he did in the first movie? No. Will he have a supervillain he fights? No. He’s going to be the specter, the ghost.”
