Josh Boone (‘The Fault in Our Stars’) has just hit the pause button on ‘The Stand’ to focus on another Stephen King novel. ‘Revival’ was released in 2014 and now is set
‘Revival’ was released in 2014 and now is set for the big screen under Boone’s guiding hand. With the rights of ‘The Stand‘ having reverted to CBS Films, the production timeline is in a bit of a limbo which means that Boone has some free time. Interestingly enough, it was all of Boone’s work with King that lead to this project seeing the light of day. While discussing ‘The Stand,’ the two ended up speaking about ‘Revival’ and when Boone expressed interest, King had him speak to producer Michael De Luca, as De Luca has a first look deal with Universal. They are currently looking over the script.
With Boone and King being big names, I’m sure we’ll see Universal pick the script up rather quickly or if they pass on it, another studio will no doubt snap it up.
For those unfamiliar with the work, ‘Revival’ deals with a preacher who lost his faith after his wife and child were taken from him in a tragic accident. With his faith in God gone, it quickly becomes clear that the preacher’s conscience was only in place from his faith. He leans towards a new way to heal others and experiments with electrical current to heal his followers. The thing is, his healing gift appears to be working in some cases – only the cost of this newfound power is great and will have dire consequences. We won’t be just following the preacher but also his sidekick, a man with a troubled past that the preacher saved who cleans up after his dirty work.
In an ideal world this delay on ‘The Stand’ would allow for it to be released in conjunction with ‘The Dark Tower’ and include the same actors for the roles that could crossover between the films. Marvel has proven that cinematic universes are a hit and one set in the world that King built would be spectacular, if just wishful thinking.
Are you excited to hear that ‘Revival’ is heading to the big screen or is that interest chilled by the annoyance that ‘The Stand’ has once again been delayed? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
