Deadpool Cable

A number of iconic, fan favorite X-Men have made the jump from the pages of Marvel Comics to the big screen. Aside from the regulars like Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey, we’ve gotten Colossus, Nightcrawler, Quicksilver, and Bishop. But someone that keeps getting talked about without being seen up until now is Cable. Though he’s been connected to a bunch of projects like ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and ‘X-Force’, we still haven’t seen the mysterious time traveler formerly known as Nathan Summers. However, with his buddy Deadpool’s film getting such good reactions so far, could that mean that Cable isn’t far behind? That seems to be notion that the actor behind the Merc With A Mouth is teasing.

During the surprise screening of ‘Deadpool’ in New York City earlier this week, director Tim Miller and star Ryan Reynolds stuck around for a Q&A with the fans. After revealing that they initially wanted Taskmaster to be in the movie, but couldn’t get him due to rights issues, someone shouted out for a sequel to the long-awaited R-rated superhero blockbuster. This prompted another fan to yell out, “Cable And Deadpool!” Reynolds responded with a smile, a nod, an eyebrow raise, and this sentence:

“Your lips to God’s ears, my friend. Believe me, that’s being talked about.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that the pair have been discussed together. Back in 2014, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld shared that he advised 20th Century Fox that the pair didn’t need to be introduced together. He went on to say that with or without Deadpool, Cable was coming sooner or later. Miller later revealed that the later would probably be ‘Deadpool 2’ or else he and his collaborators would be “run out of town”. Now by the sounds of Reynolds remarks, there’s a pretty good chance that Wade Wilson will be getting a new playmate once his sequel gets a greenlight. If that’s the case, then the question changes to whether Cable will be introduced in the sequel or another X-Men movie first. Honestly, it could work either way, especially if ‘X-Force’ ends up coming out before another Deadpool movie, but we’ll see what the architects of Fox’s Marvel Universe come up with down the line.

Do you expect to see Cable alongside the mouthy merc in the sequel to ‘Deadpool’? Or are you anticipating to see the time traveling badass to pop up somewhere else first? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

‘Deadpool’ starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, Gina Carano, and Ed Skrein hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
