‘Heroes Reborn‘ was always presented as a single season event and NBC has confirmed that there will not be a second season to follow this one up. While fans have hoped the ratings could provide a push for more episodes down the line, the event status has never changed in the network’s eyes. It also hasn’t changed series creator Tim Kring’s mind who has said that ‘Heroes’ might return in different forms down the line but this would be all we get for the current one. In fact, this was just confirmed at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
To clarify, NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt has specifically stated:
“That was always the plan, unless Tim woke up one day and said, ‘Oh, I have another chapter to tell.”
So it sounds as if NBC wouldn’t be opposed for more ‘Heroes’ but at the moment, they just don’t have anything lined up. While there are no plans for more ‘Heroes Reborn,’ what are the chances of the other possibilities that Kring had previously mentioned? Here was his exact quote from last year:
“The premise of the show is elastic enough to reboot. It has a basic premise — there are an undetermined number of people waking up to the idea that they have these powers — and we can always start with people’s origin stories. Plus the world always needs saving and that is a continual premise of the show. We’ve saved the world a few times, and the promise of Heroes is that it’s about ordinary people who come together to save world. So it feels like it can be rebooted, relaunched and recast as a franchise more than just an ongoing saga with the same characters.”
When Greenblatt was asked about this quote, his answer didn’t inspire confidence that another series was in the works at this time, at least for television. While it seemed like it could make for a good anthology series in the realm of ‘American Horror Story,’ that idea was quickly shot down:
“He didn’t say that to me, so I haven’t heard that. As far as I know, there’s no more incarnations of Heroes coming.”
So sadly this seems to be all of the ‘Heroes’ that we’ll currently have.
