‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ could potentially be described as the surprise best movie of the year, taking a 30-year-old franchise and making a 3rd sequel with a new cast was already a risk, but adding in the unique visual style, minimal dialogue, and crazy effects/stunts made it even more bold to release the movie. Fortunately for Warner Bros, the risk paid off, as the film was a critical hit, and audiences really seemed to enjoy the unique film and all of its style. Now the film is getting awards nods, and Warner Bros might be looking to bring it back to theaters for anyone who did not get a chance to experience George Miller’s cinema treat the first time around.
According to Screen Daily, who recently published an in-depth article about the making of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ it seems the studio is now looking to put out a black and white and silent version of the film in early 2016. Check out the full quote below:
In 2016, there might also be a black-and-white version of the film, which Miller confirms was his original intent. A greyscale and silent version was leaked online in September, although it has since been removed. [Producer Doug Mitchell] says that an official version exists and could yet receive a theatrical release.
It has been said for a while that Miller’s original vision for the film was a black and white release, so it is a no-brainer that it would still be an amazing visual spectacle even in grayscale, and with the minimal dialogue in the film already, going silent will not change too much, although the sound design on the film for the SFX and music was pretty stellar, and though there was minimal dialogue, the rest of the audio definitely helped draw me into the film. Not sure if I would like it as much if it was completely silent for the entire thing.
