It’s no secret Peter Jackson is a big ‘Doctor Who’ fan and that he would jump at the chance to direct an episode of the cult series. In fact, back in 2013 Jackson even said he would do the job for free or at the very least for a gold colored Dalek. So it was with great surprise when the Oscar winning director posted this little video on his Facebook page late Sunday night.

The video has Jackson and his daughter discussing why he hasn’t answered any of Steven Moffat’s e-mails about directing an episode of ‘Doctor Who.’ After taking a few jabs at the show’s executive producer (“… some of his [e-mails] are a bit incoherent, like his scripts”), he is visited by someone who was asked to personally deliver a message from Moffat… but, of course, nothing is that simple when you are dealing with Time Lord matters.

I’m sure you are having as many questions as we are after seeing that video! What does this all mean? Is this Jackson’s not so subtle hint he is going to direct an episode of ‘Doctor Who’? After all, it may not be a coincidence that a Dalek is running around in his home. With a new companion and a possible new direction for The Doctor, it would be a great combination to then throw in Jackson to direct either the season premiere or the finale.

And what about the book on the table with all the tabs? Eagle eyes may notice it was a copy of ‘The Silmarillion.’ Could Jackson be preparing to direct a feature film version? This seems to be unlikely only because Warner Bros doesn’t own the rights to the work and J.R.R. Tolkien’s son, Christopher Tolkien, is really not too happy with both the studio and Jackson (to put it mildly). If you recall, the Tolkien estate had to sue Warner Bros due to some financial compensation that the family felt was owed to them from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and the studio then countersued. As for the feelings about Jackson, last year Tolkien was quoted saying:

“They gutted the book, making an action movie for 15-25 year olds. And it seems that The Hobbit will be of the same ilk. Tolkien became…devoured by his popularity and absorbed by the absurdity of the time. The gap widened between the beauty, the seriousness of the work, and what it has become is beyond me. This level of marketing reduces to nothing the aesthetic and philosophical significance of this work.”

Things may change after a year and with some finagling some sort of agreement could have been reached, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

Then there is the mention of ‘The Walking Dead’! Could Jackson be somehow involved with that series in the near future?

Of course, this could all just be something as simple as Jackson having a little fun trolling the fans.

So many questions but not enough answers! Guess we’ll have to wait for Jackson’s 3 hour extended version of this video to find out!

What are your theories?
