Michael Dorn‘s ‘Captain Worf‘ (also known as ‘The Worf Chronicles’) may not be in the series that was greenlit to continue the small screen ‘Star Trek’ universe, but he still thinks the show could take off. As the actor has been in the ‘Star Trek’ films, ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ he has to most on screen time of any of TNG’s actors. Many fans have been behind his vision for going forward with a series in the old timeline and while the series, seems dead he claims that his idea isn’t.

Only, it wouldn’t quite be what we were expecting.

According to Dorn:

“We were always aware that this was a possibility and we have a plan B. The idea that we have is a great idea, so what we’d like to do is use it to start a new franchise.”

Now I am all for more science fiction on the small screen and would even enjoy seeing Dorn return to the genre but I just hope that their idea is open ended enough to work without the built in history that he would have from ‘Star Trek’. Much of what has been discussed to date revolves heavily around fans knowing their way around the Federation and the experiences that Worf has had to date.

Of course no longer being Worf means it would be cutting off the ‘Star Trek’ legacy right? Well, not exactly. It seems he has no problem bringing in some familiar faces if it will get fans on board:

“I think if we populate [the series] with Star Trek franchise actors, I think that’s a good place to start. We’d be able to promote it through the conventions we already do, and the great thing about it would be that we’d own it. We’d be free to do what we wanted to do.”

I’m not going to lie. The idea actually has merit. If they can get a proper writing staff and bring back some of the science fiction actors we’ve all loved this could be something good. Honestly, I’m more excited about new aliens than bringing back the one dimensional joke of a race that Klingons ended up becoming in ‘Deep Space Nine’. I’m not exactly holding my breath on this one with all of the setbacks he’s had, but depending how a trailer looks if this ever does see the light of day, I’ll at least give it the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully they’ll give us a better warrior race than how stale Klingons had become.

What are your thoughts on taking this idea and launching a new series? Would you rather have seen ‘The Worf Chronicles’ in the realm of ‘Star Trek’ or does the freedom of a new universe sound appealing to you? Share your thoughts below!
