At one point, the CW was casting an “African-American or biracial male” for ‘Legends of Tomorrow‘.  The mystery character was stated to be adopting the uniform of a missing hero.  Now it has been confirmed that this casting was for the character Connor Hawke. In the comics, Connor Hawke is the illegitimate son of Oliver Queen and former fling Sandra Moonday Hawke.  After spending years training in a monastery, Hawke assumed the identity of Green Arrow after Oliver was killed during much of the 90s.  Connor even joined the Justice League in his father’s place and once Oliver was returned to life (because comics), he continued as a supporting character in Oliver’s solo book.

The comic book Connor is 1/2 Caucasian on Oliver’s side, and 1/4 Korean and 1/4 African American on his mother’s side.  That would explain why Warner Bros. was looking for a “biracial” actor, but not necessarily a full African American… except the studio disclosed that the version of Connor on ‘Legends’ is NOT the son of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).

Fans of ‘Arrow’ have actually been expecting Connor in one form or another to show up, since it was revealed that before becoming stranded on Lian Yu, Oliver impregnated a woman whom his mother Moira paid off to disappear after claiming to have had a miscarriage.  She relocated to Central City and later surfaced on ‘The Flash’ where it was revealed that her son was now around seven years-old.

This subplot will surely come back into play in the future, but it now appears that this woman is not Sandra Moonday Hawke and that their son is not Connor.

Since ‘Legends’ is a time travel show, presumably Connor will be introduced in the future, after Green Arrow disappears.

It would make sense for this Connor to e Oliver’s son, as he is in the comics, but if WB says he’s not, we’ll have to wait and see what his story is.  But one possibility is… the Multiverse.  In DC Comics, there are infinite alternate timelines, an idea that is playing out now on ‘The Flash’.  Maybe Connor Hawke isn’t the son of THE Oliver, the star of ‘Arrow’ but what if he’s the son of AN Oliver, maybe an alternate universe doppelganger?

Also worth noting, Connor assumes his heroic guise to oppose the son of a famous villain who plans to pick up HIS father’s mantle.  This progeny is described as being physically massive.  Could it be the son of Atom-Smasher?  What’s your guess?

Connor (and this legacy villain) will appear in the sixth episode of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ stars Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom), Victor Garber (Prof. Martin Stein/Firestorm), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), Ciara Renée (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl), Franz Drameh (Jax Jackson), Dominic Purcell (Heatwave), Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), Casper Crump (Vandal Savage) and Falk Hentschel (Carter Hall/Hawkman).

No start date has been announced for the series beyond early 2016.
