As we all know by now, there are a lot of people in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ Not only will we catch up with characters like Black Widow, Falcon, the Winter Soldier, and Agent 13 from the last film featuring the Sentinel of Liberty, but we’ll also see Hawkeye, Ant-Man, the Vision, Iron Man, and more join in on the action. Although, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t be the only ones inhabiting the Russos’ highly-anticipated follow-up to ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’ Some fiendish figures such as Crossbones and Baron Zemo will be in the mix as well. And depending on who you side with, any of these figures could be labeled a villain. But who is the actual big bad of the film? We may have just gotten our answer.
While speaking to French site Premiere.fr about her new film playing at Deauville Film Festival, Elizabeth Olsen outed one of her Marvel Cinematic Universe co-stars as the true foe of ‘Civil War’. The actress who will reprise her ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ role of the Scarlet Witch in the third Cap film revealed that ‘Inglorious Basterds’ and ‘Rush’ star Daniel Bruhl would actually be the primary antagonist of the movie:
“Bruhl is an incredible actor and he’s playing the main villain in it. And he’s incredible! It’s a movie about people as opposed to robots this time. So it’s darker and it’s allowed to be darker because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines.”
Bruhl’s Zemo certainly plays a part in the original comic storyline, but he wasn’t really the main villain. However, the cinematic adaptation will deviate slightly from the source material, so who knows how much has changed exactly. No matter what happens though, Olsen is certainly excited about it. Check out the whole interview with her, followed by the official synopsis of the film:
‘Captain America: Civil War’ picks up where ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
What do you think about Baron Zemo being the main villain in ‘Captain America: Civil War’? How do you think Daniel Bruhl’s character will end up being behind this whole thing? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section.
