Things might finally be picking up regarding ‘Captain Marvel’! The first Marvel Studios flick to star a female lead, fans and creators have all been clamoring for super powered pilot Carol Danvers to hit the big screen, but plans to feature her in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ were scuttled. With ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Doctor Strange’ well on their way into production, ‘Captain Marvel’ does not yet have a final script nor a director in place, much less a star, but that may be changing soon.
The latest rumor is that ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ star Rebecca Ferguson tops Marvel’s list of hopeful leads. Ferguson played Ilsa Faust, a British secret agent in the film that has been cleaning up at the late summer box office, lifting her visibility to new heights. Ferguson previously starred in ‘Hercules’ last summer opposite Dwayne Johnson.
Recently, female MMA fighter Ronda Rousey expressed an interest in playing the hero, while other names like Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Katee Sackhoff and Yvonne Strahovski have been mentioned to be in consideration.
Ferguson was recently reported to be in the running to play Bella Donna, the female lead in Fox’s ‘Gambit’ but opted out. Instead, she took a role in the drama ‘The Girl On The Train’, coincidentally co-starring Emily Blunt.
The speculation is that Ferguson may have passed on playing the romantic interest to a super hero in a slightly smaller movie, because the prospect may arise to actually headline a major film under the Marvel ægis.
For now, this is just a rumor, but Ferguson could be a great choice in that she isn’t a huge star that would demand a hefty salary, but her profile is increasing following the success of ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’. Plus her role in that action flick shows she could handle a physical role.
Also, the fact that she was in a movie subtitled ‘ROGUE Nation’ but could be playing Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers… I mean, am I the only one who gets the connection?
What do you think? Would Rebecca Ferguson make a good Captain Marvel? Sound off below!
