With all of the work going into the pilot for ‘Preacher‘ I’m sure it isn’t too surprising that the series has just been officially picked up by AMC. Executive Producer Seth Rogen announced that not only has a 10-episode first season been ordered but that it would premiere in 2016. Sounds like Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin are going to be very busy with shooting through the end of the year to make sure that it happens.
Here is Rogen’s announcement along with some new promotional art for the series:

The series itself is based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s classic 90’s comics and puts Dominic Cooper (‘Agent Carter’) in the central role of Jesse Custer. Custer is a preacher who not only lost faith but found out that God is real and has left Heaven. As the only man who can track down God he is forced into the position to find the Almighty and put him back on the throne that he has abandoned. Helping him is his ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare who is played by Ruth Negga. I should probably point out that O’Hare is a borderline alcoholic vampire.
Oh how opposites attract!
Of course, it should be pointed out that not everyone is happy with Jesse and he is being hunted down by the Saint Of Killers so there will be plenty of Angels and Demons standing in Custer’s way.
With ‘The Walking Dead’ being such a knock out ratings hit I don’t think anyone should be surprised that the network would want to bring another horror themed comic to life. With the cast and crew involved so far I don’t think production or acting quality will be an issue and am generally looking forward for the first trailer to be released so we can actually get a feel for the show’s tone.
