Since horror franchises just aren’t allowed to die when they go bad, we’ll be seeing another reboot coming of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street.’ Barely five years have passed since New Line and Platinum Dunes had put out a flop of a darker and more modern take on Wes Craven‘s original and now it’s time for another one. While I liked the idea centered around a darker Freddy Kruger, I think we can all agree that the film from pacing to acting just didn’t work.

So with no continuation of the 2010 release that starred Jackie Earle Haley and Robert Englund being done, it’s up to David Leslie Johnson (‘Wrath of the Titans’,’Orphan’) to pen a new script that will hopefully lure an amazing actor into the role that will draw audiences back into the theater. With the film not having a director or producers on board yet and only Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter watching on New Line’s end, I don’t think we’ll be hearing much on this in the immediate future. Especially with Johnson also having been tapped to write the new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ film for Warner Brothers which I suspect will be his priority between these two.

With the other main stream slashers of ‘Friday the 13th‘ and ‘Halloween‘ also getting reboots, it should be no surprise that the last of the most infamous trio is being put up on the big screen as well.

With the studio seeming to want to have their slashers be a little darker these days, you would expect them to make another stab at a grim reboot. However, the lack of a wisecracking Kruger in the last flopped reboot might force the studio’s hand to have this one include a little darker humor as well.

What are your thoughts on another reboot of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’? Since it is going to happen anyway, would you prefer they go the darker direction of the remake but make it work this time or would you prefer some of the humor from the original films to shine through?
