Warner Brothers is back at their reboot attempt of one of the first dystopian films as Simon Kinberg (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘,’Sherlock Holmes’) has just been attached to write and produce ‘Logan’s Run.’ Kinberg has had a slew of hits under his belt though not much of it falls into the young adult dystopian setting that has become popular in recent years. The closest would be the future version of events that were given in the last X-Men movie. This is a film that Warner Brothers has been had issues developing for quite some time with Ryan Gosling leaving the production in 2012 when production of the film had initially been set to start. From losing multiple directors and constant rewrites, honestly, it just can’t seem to get off the ground.

Lets hope that Kinberg has better luck with the latest attempt. When his new treatment is in hand he will be joining Joel Silver in producing the project as well as another writer signing on to tighten up the script. At this point there is no word as to who might be directing the film.

The original 1967 novel by William F. Nolan puts us in a society where at a certain age everyone is set to be executed for the good of civilization. Not everyone is okay with following this rule and try to escape it. These “runners” have to be tracked down and executed. Logan is initially introduced as one of the Sandmen whose task it is to execute these runners. Only when he starts to question his purpose in life and help those he is meant to hunt he has to go on the run himself.

With the first cinematic ‘Logan’s Run’ having been released in 1976 this one may have a chance of being special as the original was one of the first films to take on a dystopian future. At the very least with the craze of these type of movies that are popping up it makes more sense to revisit than some of the horror franchises that can’t seem to stay dead. While I hadn’t originally been too interested in it the fact that they’ve been able to lure Kinberg on board makes me think there might be something here.

What are your thoughts on actual progress happening for the reboot for ‘Logan’s Run’? Is this a movie that you could see having a face lift? Share your thoughts below!
