MILD SPOILERS for ‘Ant-Man’ – Turn back if you haven’t seen it yet!

We now know that Evangeline Lilly‘s character from ‘Ant-Man’, Hope Van Dyne will factor heavily in future Marvel movies.  As comic readers know, one of the founding Avengers was The Wasp, who had an even bigger role as a member of the team than Ant-Man or whatever alias Hank Pym was using at any given time.  Eventually, The Wasp, Janet Van Dyne marries Pym, although they were divorced years later.  However, in ‘Ant-Man,’ Pym is depicted as an older man and is wife Janet is presumed deceased.  Hope is their daughter, but it certainly looks as if she will be adopting her own super identity soon, which will surely by that of The Wasp.  Or is that The Wasp II?

The actual fate of Janet Van Dyne is left unresolved in ‘Ant-Man,’ but we do know that the mysterious Quantum Realm played a part.  Could Janet still be alive, just stranded in another dimension?  That’s a plot thread that will hopefully be resolved, if not in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (which it most likely won’t) then in an upcoming sequel.

Here’s what Lilly had to say on the matter:

“Marvel hasn’t told me, but I kind of, again, fabricating my own… I think that she could be [alive] and that it could be a great.  I mean, I would love to see a storyline where Hope somehow, I don’t know, tries to find her mom or meets her or something happens where there’s some amazing reunion. I think that would be super cool, and I have my dream casting already, for my mom.”

Oh?  Do tell!

“It’s got to be Michelle Pfeiffer.  That was my favorite of all time of all the comic book female characters, but Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Not just anybody or anything, not even like in the comic books, Michelle Pfeiffer.”

No offense to Anne Hathaway, but Michelle Pfeiffer is probably the best Catwoman and one of the most unforgettable female super characters to appear in film.  (And this was despite a wacky Tim Burton origin story.)

At 57, the actress still looks amazing and is in great shape.  And it’s not like playing The Wasp would require Catwoman high kicks or back flips.  Pfeiffer has drastically cut back on her acting roles in recent years, her last role being in the mafia comedy ‘The Family’ in 2013.  Could she be tempted back in front of a camera to pass the torch to a hero from the new generation?  Here’s hoping!  (No pun intended.)  She’d be puuuuurrrfect!

Check out this classic Catwoman sequence from ‘Batman Returns’ (1992):

Michael Douglas, who played Hank Pym, might disagree with Lilly’s choice.  His vote goes to his own stunning wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Another wonderful pick that I’d be happy with!

Who should get the final say?  Janet’s husband?  Or her daughter?

Which actress do you think should play the original Wasp?
