Around this time of year, fans start to learn what exclusives will be available at San Diego Comic-Con. We’ve done our best to spotlight some of the coolest things available exclusively at the Mecca of pop culture this year in our Toy News Tuesday column, but the offering from Hasbro and ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is particularly interesting. Not only is the first figure from ‘Episode VII’ part of the popular and highly detailed Black Series, but it also provides some new information about the First Order and the new Stormtroopers that will represent them.

Eric Goldman from IGN came across the packaging for the 6-inch Black Series First Order Stormtrooper that will be available at this year’s Comic-Con. He posted his findings on Twitter to show the side that details the history of the Stormtrooper and explains how the imperial soldiers came to be a part of this “new era of ruthless brutality”:

When we first laid eyes on the new Stormtroopers that sported a sleeker, more futuristic design, it was assumed that they were working for the Empire. Then, once talk of the First Order started, many thought that this was just a new name for an old enemy. However, as the toy packaging shows, the Empire’s forces were “scattered” after the destruction of the second Death Star and the events of ‘Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi.’ Could this mean that the First Order is a more radical off-shoot of the Empire rather than a governing body? Some are even theorizing that they could be an extreme loyalist cult of some kind that rose after the fall of the Empire, which might explain the similarities between the two groups. No matter what the First Order actually is, we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out the answer. Until then, check out some images of the SDCC exclusive First Order Stormtrooper action figure in the gallery below:
