After all the work Channing Tatum has put into getting the ‘Gambit‘ movie off the ground, including his search for a director (which ended when ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ director Rupert Wyatt signing on), it is nice to see Tatum getting into character, and preparing for the role that fans have been hungering to see.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Tatum’s friend and partner in their Free Association production company, screenwriter Reid Carolin,  was asked about Tatum’s Gambit accent, and whether it would be possible to hear it anytime soon, as fans know the accent is one of the keys to the success of the film. Carolin responded by saying:

“[Hearing the accent] probably is a spoiler but you should ask him. I don’t think he has it yet. Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do sleight of hand and all that…..”

Which is also good news, as Gambit’s card trick skills are legendary, and another important factor in getting the character right. David Kwong is the right man to have working with Tatum, having a lot of experience in Hollywood before, particularly on the hit ‘Now You See Me’ film. The ability to accurately throw a card is quintessential to the Gambit character and the use of his powers (at least in the comics), so it is encouraging to know that Tatum is putting in the work to be able to do it right, and now just rely on post production CGI to do all the work for him.

What are your thoughts on the ‘Gambit’ film so far? Does Tatum have enough time to master an accent and all the card tricks before the film needs to begin shooting? (with a Fall 2016 release date, they have to start shooting pretty soon) Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
