In addition to a new trilogy of films starting with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Disney and Lucasfilm are developing three ‘Star Wars Anthology’ films that spinoff from the main narrative that runs through the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. The first one is Gareth Edwards’ ‘Rogue One’, which follows a group of rebels that attempt to steal the plans for the first Death Star. Felicity Jones is already set to star in the film and it’s rumored that Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed will join her. But the second one is a little bit more of a mystery. We knew that Josh Trank was meant to direct it, but he departed the project last week to pursue “original creative opportunities.” As rumors continue to emerge about Trank’s departure, a new report has surfaced that tells us what he was supposed to be working on.

According to The Wrap, the second ‘Star Wars Anthology’ film will tell the story of Boba Fett’s origin. Previously, we got to see the fan favorite character as a child when Jango Fett kept one of the original clonetroopers as a son. Later (in the timeline of the story), we caught up with Fett as an adult where he became one of the most notorious bounty hunters in the entire galaxy under the employ of seedy figures such as Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt. Now, it seems like we may get to see what happened in between these two periods of time that shaped him into the ruthless Mandalorian warrior that we’ve all come to know and love.

Rumors of a Boba Fett origin story have been circulating since the spinoffs were first announced. Thanks to the reports of Josh Trank’s departure, we know that this is the ‘Star Wars’ film that Simon Kinberg is working on. At one point, it was said that he was writing one of the anthology films with Lawrence Kasdan, who was said to be developing a Boba Fett film last year, but it is uncertain if the veteran screenwriter is still attached or not. As we wait for the official confirmation of the details from Walt Disney Pictures or Lucasfilm directly, let us know what you think about everyone’s favorite bounty hunter starring in his own movie in the comments below.
