With Disney loving live action films based off of their franchises, it should be no wonder that they are going to release ‘Beanstalk.’ But what is surprising is that ‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan is behind it!

Yes, the man who gave us Walter White is now bringing us a Disney film that they purchased after reading just a “detailed outline” which he put together on his own take of the classic story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ With how amazing his television treatments have been in recent years, I’m quite excited to see what he’ll be doing with a full feature length film again.

Emmy Award Winning Tom Schnauz (‘Better Call Saul’,’Resurrection’) will be writing the screenplay based off of this outline with Mike Johnson set to produce with Gilligan. While no one is in the director’s chair quite yet, it sounds like Gilligan might be sitting there soon.

While Disney has been going slightly darker with their real life tales such as ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Into The Woods,’ if Gilligan stays even close to the form he has become famous for in recent years this could quite possibly end up as Disney’s darkest movie to date. Honestly, I’d be okay with that as I’m sure he’d be able to handle the balance of darkness and still being a film that could be targeted at younger audiences.

I am happy to see that the studio is continuing to put out original work and not just solely relying on their Marvel, Pixar, and soon Lucas Film movies to carry the company. These live action fairy tales they have been doing have clearly been successful when so many other films such as ‘Through the Looking Glass,”Beauty and the Beast,’ and ‘Mulan‘ have been greenlit.

Are you excited to see what Gilligan will do with his own take on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’? Do you think he’ll be able to do a better job than ‘Jack the Giant Slayer‘ tried to do a few years back? Share your thoughts below!
