In a bit of sad news to hit the internet, it seems that ‘Arrow’ might be done featuring fan-favorite villain Deathstroke after his last appearance in the Season 3 episode ‘The Return,’ and unlike Deadshot who WB execs told the show to stop using, it seems this one-eyed villain’s career on the show has been killed by the man playing him. It seems Manu Bennett is unhappy with the way the show has handled the character, saying the following:

“I think Deathstroke had a lot of possibilities with Arrow but, I think they took it in the wrong direction…It took the Justice League to defeat him; it took an army to take him on. In Arrow, it took a while for Oliver [Queen/Arrow] to prove his point, but [season three] was just a beating of Slade, adding insult to injury.”

Don’t get me wrong, Bennett does kind of have a point about his de-powering on the show. Deathstroke in the comics was a lot scarier and a lot more powerful, but in a more down-to-earth and gritty adaption of the source material like what we see on ‘Arrow,’ it only make sense that everyone is powered down to a certain degree. And he really shouldn’t complain, as he was the villain that introduced super-powers to the Arrow-verse (via the Mirakuru), and is still counted as a fan favorite, as his part in Season 2 is a large part of what made the end of that season the best that ‘Arrow’ has done so far. As for the business about how the Justice League had to bring him down in the comics because of his power and skill, its just unrealistic for him to think he would be similarly unbeatable on the show. TV Show villains often only get season long plots, that are usually wrapped up in the season finale, to believe that you will continue to be the big bad lording over the rest of the show is insane, no matter how well-received your character is. And if it makes him feel any better, Oliver Queen did not best him alone, it took the entire Team Arrow, plus assistance from the folks at Star Labs to bring him down.

Do you think Deathstroke was mishandled in ‘Arrow?’ Do you think  Bennett’s character should be brought back? Let us know below!
