Masi Oka is coming back to ‘Heroes Reborn,’ joining Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet aka The Man in the Horn-Rimmed Glasses) as one of two ‘Heroes’ vets returning to the series spin-off. Oka’s Hiro was the heart of the original series, especially the amazing first season, where he rallied the heroes to save the world. His character’s ups and down since then were part of the problem with the show, extended (and useless) B-Plots, wacky storylines and powers logic that was never clear and lacking consistency, but hopefully with Tim Kring back in charge and a fresh take on the franchise, they can bring the show and Hiro back to their original greatness. As for Masi Oka himself, here are his thoughts on returning:

“I’m excited to return to my ‘Heroes’ roots. Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”

And Tim Kring’s comments on the return of one his original stars:

“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family. The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”

Aside from the returning cast members, and newcomers including Zachary Levi, Ryan Guzman, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, Judith Shekoni, Kiki Sukezane, Henry Zebrowski and Gatlin Green, there is not much known about the returning series. Most sources agree the new storyline will take place after the events of the original show, ‘Heroes,’ which ended with Noah Bennet’s daughter Claire (the cheerleader with the healing powers of Wolverine) jumping off a ride at a carnival and revealing her powers to the world. Whether the story will pick up right at the moment is unclear, but the brief teaser seen during the Superbowl this year showed Noah Bennet investigating an individual who appeared to have powers involving the Aurora Borealis, so perhaps he is back with an agency hunting down those with abilities. Either way, I’m excited to see the return of the series, and to see what tricks they have up their sleeves.

Do you think ‘Heroes’ deserves another chance? Will you be watching when it comes back to NBC later this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
