The fan speculation regarding ‘Tron 3’ was given a shot in the arm a few weeks ago when musician Giorgio Moroder claimed he would be working with Skrillex on tracks for a new ‘Tron’ video game. (quote below)

“I’m going to meet Skrillex next week when I’m back. I’m doing the music for a game for Disney’s ‘Tron’. We have about five themes, electronic stuff and let’s see if he’s interested in remixing or re-working one of the songs.”

Fans immediately hopped on two rumor trains: 1. That the “game” in question was not a real game but actually a game within a film, namely ‘Tron 3.’ Or 2. The new ‘Tron’ game was being created to coincide with the release of a new ‘Tron’ movie (which is usually the case with games based on movie franchises). Either way, the news brought ‘Tron 3’ back into the fan spotlight, and people began asking questions about the trippy world.

Soon afterwards, the world received the following tweet from ‘VanCityBuzz,’ which confirmed that ‘Tron 3’ was about to begin shooting:

So now we have rumors about music and shooting dates, and since then we have a learned just a little bit more. We are fairly certain Joseph Kosinski is returning to direct, and we have also heard that the only confirmed cast member returning is the star, Garrett Hedlund. (Though some would argue Daft Punk was the real star of ‘Tron Legacy,’ their beautiful score being by far the best element of the movie.) It seems pretty obvious, based on the end of ‘Tron Legacy’ that Olivia Wilde would be returning, and Bruce Boxleitner has spoken of returning to the franchise before. And it just would not be ‘Tron’ without Jeff Bridges in the mix, so I would expect the filmmakers to find a way to bring him back as well.

What do you think of another ‘Tron’ movie on the way? Can Disney manage to get another major franchise sequel into the market place in the next few years when they’re already releasing Pixar, Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ films? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
