Razzie Awards

While the world had their eyes on the best of the best last night with the Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation (a.k.a. the “Razzies”) also held their annual “Best of the Worst” ceremony over the weekend and it should come to no surprise that Michael Bay and his film ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ brought home a couple of the top honors.

Going into the Razzies with 7 nominations, ‘Age of Extinction’ (dubbed ‘Age of Ex-STINK-tion’) “won” two of its categories (Worst Director for Michael Bay and Worst Supporting Actor for Kelsy Grammer). (An interesting side note, the ‘Transformers’ franchise seems to have a love/hate relationship with the Razzies – it’s a franchise they love to hate – as ‘Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen’ and ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ both were nominated for Worst Films and Worst Director with Michael Bay and “Revenge of the Fallen’ winning the categories in 2009.)

This year, however, it was Kirk Cameron and his film ‘Saving Christmas’ which swept the awards with 4 wins for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo (for Cameron and his ego).

Megan Fox did contribute to the list of Bay project Razzies with her win for Worst Supporting Actress for ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

While the Razzies do tend to revel in movie-making mediocrity, the Foundation did add a new category this year called the Razzie Redeemer award to honor former Razzie recipients who have risen up from Razzie to Snazzy. This year’s recipient went to Ben Affleck who had previously won a Razzie for his work on ‘Gigli’ but has gone on to bigger and better films which include ‘Argo’ and ‘Gone Girl.’ The award was announced by real-life film critic nun Sister Rose Pacatte who told the audience, “We Catholic nuns are all about redemption.”

This was also the first year that the public were invited to the awards ceremony, but if you weren’t able to make it to the red carpet or the awards, here’s the list of the winners for this year’ Razzie Awards:
