Warner Brothers/ DC lookout! The ‘Green Lantern’ film may not have entered casting stages yet, but Tyrese Gibson (‘Fast and Furious’ Franchise and ‘Transformers’) is driving hard for the role, emboldened by fan support and some pretty amazing fan-made artwork he has been posting to Instagram.

In the Instagram photos, fans have been putting Gibson’s face onto ‘Green Lantern’ bodies and movie posters, and even I have to admit, they do look impressive. Gibson is of course vying for the role of John Stewart, a Lantern who received his power ring after Hal Jordan (who was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the first ‘Green Lantern’ film put out by Warner Bros). Stewart is a former marine who the Lantern Corps also found worthy of wearing a ring and wielding its power, and he is the Green Lantern that fans of the DC Animated Universe know quite well for he was the main Lantern for that version of the Justice League, even helping to found the League in the first place.

It would be a smart move by Warner Brothers to use the John Stewart version of the Green Lantern in their Cinematic Universe, as not only would it help incorporate more ethnicities in the mix, but Stewart is less jokey and a lot more serious than other Lanterns we’ve seen (Hal Jordan for example, which is why Reynolds was cast in that film), and that serious tone seems to be exactly what the DC Cinematic Universe is going for. And casting Tyrese Gibson would not be a terrible idea as the man has shown he works well in franchises, and the fan support would do the DCCU worlds of good, especially as they battle to win fans away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Only time will tell, especially since the actual ‘Green Lantern’ movie isn’t coming out till 2020, and we have no idea how much a part of the ‘Justice League‘ films the Green Lantern will have. What do you think of Tyrese Gibson as the Green Lantern? Let us know in the comments below!
