There has been a floating rumor for awhile now that Jared Leto (‘Requiem For A Dream’,’Dallas Buyers Club’) is up for the role of The Joker in DC’s upcoming ‘Suicide Squad‘ film and potentially the stand alone Batman film, but he is saying that he won’t comment on the rumor. Only, the way that Leto is denying the rumor almost sounds like he is confirming that he has the job already. While I’m sure anyone has to be sweating fan reaction after the pure insanity that Heath Ledger brought to the character in 2008’s ‘The Dark Knight,’ you almost have to expect the next iteration to go the more comic route.
We’ll see in 2016 if he even has a major part in the film but for now we just have to wonder who is even going to play the Joker. Right now it really looks like the Leto rumor is going to pan out to be true.
So what has he been saying to deny the rumor? Well there’s a couple of different things that have come up so far. Well a week ago he was vague by saying “You know there’s a film called Fight Club, my friends, and you know what the first rule is, don’t you?” when talking to MTV News while more recently he said that “I’m not really in a hurry to jump into another film unless it’s something I can’t say no to. I want to make sure it’s special.”
Playing probably the most iconic villain of all time in comic books might just fall into being special if you ask me. Even being a Marvel fan, to me The Joker is probably the single most stand out villain there is. Sure, Marvel has Thanos, Red Skull, The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Doctor Doom but none of them have that stand out bit of crazy that strikes you the same way that The Joker can.
Still none of that is solid, but how about this though. In his most recent interview with THR he states that “I’ve sworn to keep my mouth shut.” Well. At the very least that has to mean that talks are under way and an NDA has been signed unless he is trolling the Internet.
So what do you think on Leto here? Is he in talks, already signed on, or just being vague with all of us because he can? Share your thoughts below!
