After the unevenly paced dud that was ‘Prometheus,’ I was really hoping that the sequel would give us more on how the Xenomorphs from ‘Aliens‘ were involved but now it sounds like we won’t be seeing them at all in the next film. One can hope that Ridley Scott is either trolling us or that he changes his mind before the next movie begins production, but in a recent interview it sounds like we are going to be done seeing that particular species, at least for now.

When talking about his upcoming film ‘The Martian’ the conversation of course turned to ‘Prometheus 2‘ and this is what he had to say about the incluison of Xenomorphs: .

“The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four (he has conveniently forgotten the ‘AvP’ movies), I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

One has to wonder if Scott is just really sick of using them or if the the screenwriter Michael Green (‘Green Lantern’,’The River’), who honestly has me even more worried about the film, is the one that decided to ditch the best alien threat humanity has faced to date.

While the movie was horribly paced it did bring up a lot of interesting concepts. While I’m curious as to what they will do with the Engineers going forward and what other forms of life might be introduced, the lack of the Xenomorph just feels like a let down.

What do you think of the idea of removing them going forward? Will this allow for better world building without a focus on the space horrors from the past or are they why you wanted to see more of this world to begin with?
