Principle filming is said to be completed on the hotly anticipated ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’  Among other things, we’ve learned that Jeremy Renner‘s Hawkeye will don a modified costume with a long-sleeve jacket.

In the first ‘Avengers’, Hawkeye had the smallest role, spending much of the movie under Loki’s hypnotic control.  He was also the least known to general audiences, having made just a tiny cameo in ‘Thor’, previously.  But he is said to have a a much larger role in ‘Age of Ultron’ which could set the stage for even more Hawkeye to come.  Don’t exactly expect a full solo movie, but Renner dropped hints that it’s possible that we might see the archer in another Marvel film, the third ‘Captain America.’  In the second, ‘The Winter Soldier,’ Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow played a major supporting role.  Could this be Hawkeye’s turn to share the spotlight?

Renner said, “There are rumblings of ‘Captain America 3.’  I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man. [Laughs] I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

Renner is indeed busy.  He has several new projects on the horizon, including thriller ‘Kill The Messenger,’ ‘Mission Impossible 5,’ a new ‘Bourne’ film and he also has ‘King of Heist’ and ‘McQueen’ (a biopic about actor Steve McQueen) in development.

But here’s hoping that Renner can free up some time.  Captain America, Iron Man and Thor have headlined multiple solo movies.  Technically, Marvel did produce ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ but I’m not sure if that movie, which starred Edward Norton, not Mark Ruffalo, is still considered canon.  And as stated, Black Widow has now had sizable roles in ‘Iron Man 2,’ ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’  Nick Fury has factored into several of the movies and on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ which stars Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Caulson.

Hawkeye could desperately use some fleshing out in comparison.

In the comics, Hawkeye is actually a character that has worked closely with Cap, serving as one of ‘Cap’s Kooky Quartet’ alongside Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, after the founding Avengers all quit due to time constraints.  It should be noted  that Hawkeye, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch had all previously been villains and this was their shot at redemption.

Would you like to see Hawkeye given the “Black Widow” treatment in ‘Captain America 3’?
