The cast for ‘Arrow‘ keeps growing and the latest announcement is that J.R. Ramirez (‘Power’, ‘The Coalition’) has joined up and will be playing the character of Ted Grant. For those of you unfamiliar with Ted you may recognize him by his superhero name of Wildcat who has had a bit of a history in DC. Even though he isn’t one of the A-Listers, he has been around for quite some time.
Ted Grant initially created the superhero to clear his own name as he was accidentally dragged into the wrong side of the law. In the comics, Wildcat has been a member of the Justice Society for America and has helped train countless masked vigilantes with Black Canary being one that stands out as she is already on the show. He was also one of the people who ended up training a young Bruce Wayne prior to becoming Batman, though that probably won’t be even remotely acknowledged in the show.
We do know that in the series much of his origin will mimic his past in the comics. He is going to be an ex-boxer who runs a gym for underprivileged youth. Also Wildcat is set to play into a major arc involving Laurel Lance in this next season. I take this to mean that there is a good chance his helping kids learn to box may lead into his helping train Laurel into being a crime fighter. Assuming this somehow sets him on the wrong side of the law things could even more mirror his role in the comics.
Among others, J.R. Ramirez will be joining fellow newcomers Peter Stormare as Count Verigo, and Brandon Routh as The Atom. There will be a lot of new blood showing up this season!
