Every year, fan favorite director Kevin Smith sets up shop in Hall H for his annual San Diego Comic Con address. This year, however, he had something to show off. Along with stars Haley Joel Osment and Genesis Rodriguez, the man behind ‘Clerks’, ‘Mallrats’, and ‘Dogma’ revealed the first trailer for his upcoming horror film ‘Tusk,’ a project that the filmmaker stumbled upon while he was waiting to hear back about ‘Clerks III’.

Based on an episode of Smith’s SModcast podcast, ‘Tusk’ follows podcaster Wallace Bryton as he travels to Canada to record an episode of his podcast with an eccentric individual named Mr. Howe about his life at sea. However, his trip to the Great White North turns into a dark, creepy, ‘Human Centipede’-esque tale that finds Wallace transformed into a walrus. Damn, that even feels weird to type out. But I’ll bet it’s even weirder to see onscreen. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until the fall to actually see it, but you can see the first trailer below:

I don’t know how Smith did it. After I watched this for the first time, I was super freaked out and laughing at the same time. I mean, “I don’t want to die in Canada” is a hilarious line, but that scene with Michael Parks right before it is downright frightening. Even though we’ve seen Silent Bob tackle a more serious film with ‘Red State’, it looks like he’s taken things to a whole new level.

What do you think about the first trailer for Kevin Smith’s ‘Tusk’? Do you think that he has succeeded in recreating the feel of a classic British Hammer horror movie? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

‘Tusk’ starring Michael Parks, Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, and Johnny Depp hits theaters on September 29, 2015.
