HBO is rebooting Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic ‘Westworld‘ as an ongoing series and they have just announced two amazing lead actors are joining the cast! We’ve known that J.J. Abrams has wanted to bring the film to the small screen for almost a year now but had no idea that he would be bringing the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood to the table! I was already excited from how much I loved the original film, but with these two on the cast I’m wishing the series was ready to premiere!

While this is a science fiction based future where ‘Westworld’ is a theme park filled with AI controlled robots, it isn’t the first time HBO has dabbled with the old west. Previously they had released the smash hit ‘Deadwood’ which ended far too soon. While this will be the first ongoing series for Hopkins, Wood is actually returning to HBO as she has previously been in their miniseries ‘Mildred Pierce’ and on ‘True Blood‘.

Hopkins is set to take on the part of Dr. Robert Ford. He will be the chairman of the board of Westworld that created everything in it and will do anything to achieve his vision. Anything also means some unsavory actions on his part. Wood is going to be playing Dolores Abernathy. She thinks she is a farm girl in the old west, but her life going to get a lot more complicated when she finds out that everything about her world is a carefully crafted lie.

The logline for the show is “Set in the amazing world dreamt up by Michael Crichton, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” In the movie we were placed in the adult theme park where the androids within start hunting down the humans that were using them for sport.

Interestingly enough, to fit with the timing of this new series there is a new film titled ‘Vice coming out that touches on many of the same concepts starring Bruce Willis.
