Whether you knew him as Sheldon’s frenemy on ‘The Big Bang Theory’, Wesley Crusher on ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, or from his strong internet presence, you may now know Wil Wheaton as a TV show host because Syfy has given the prominent nerd his own series called ‘The Wil Wheaton Project. Providing a geeky twist on ‘The Soup’, the half-hour topical comedy show looks at various happenings in sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and more in rapid-fire segments featuring the sharp, witty commentary of Wheaton and friends.

Last night, the show debuted with it’s first episode at 10:00pm and it was filled with ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ hype, discussion about the latest shows to get the ax like ‘Star-Crossed’ and ‘Dracula’, and a special visit from fellow nerd extraordinaire Chris Hardwick. But if you were left clamoring for more, Blastr has some outtakes from the pilot featuring more goofiness with the Nerdist himself and an additional PSA from Shawn Ashmore about the X-Men film franchise where he stars as Iceman. You can check out both videos below:

While the “Asmore You Know” segments were hilarious, my favorite portions of the show (besides the charismatic host) had to be the Neil deGrasse Tyson bits that featured footage from ‘Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey’ manipulated for hilarity. Despite the simple nature of the gag, I found them to be hilarious because I’m a fan of having a laugh at the esteemed astrophysicist’s expense.

What did you think of the first episode of ‘The Wil Wheaton Project’? What corners of the nerd universe do you think the show will travel to next week? And are you a fan of how SyFy finally has someone on their own network to crack jokes about them? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

‘The Wil Wheaton Project’ airs on Tuesdays at 10:00pm on SyFy.
