Kevin Smith had to do a face-palm when when he read reactions to Ben Affleck’s Batman costume.  A lot of fans are apparently taking it the wrong way.  The director/blogger explained, “So I’ve seen some people online go, ‘Why is this f***ing suit any different than the Chris Nolan Batsuit, it’s all one f***ing color.’”  He clarifies, “It’s like, ‘Dude, that’s a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome.”

Smith was actually shown a mockup photo of the suit months ago, and while he teased some clues about it, he for the most part kept mum in respect for director Zack Snyder who wanted to keep a lot of things under wraps.

“As you may remember, I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago, and many people asked online, ‘Is that the picture you saw?’ No, that is a very cool picture, but that is not the picture I saw.  (On the one, I saw] they put it on a fake rooftop, and they lit it up. But it was in color, and you could see every piece of detail.”

Frank Miller’s ‘Hunt The Dark Knight’ suit.

Since the suit has been released to the public, even though in black-and-white, Smith figured it was time to break his silence and hopefully smooth some outraged fans’ ruffled feathers.  “That’s not a representation of what the suit looks like.  So what the suit looks like, and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they’ve revealed it… If you want to see what this f***ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, go to the third book, Hunt the Dark Knight…it’s the exact f***ing outfit he’s wearing. That’s why I hugged that guy all those months ago.”

Smith’s co-host Ralph Garman said he thought the new Batmobile looked similar to the Nolan Tumbler.  Smith teasingly replied, “I will put this to you. What if it’s one of a few Batmobiles? What if that’s one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that’s the case.”  That last bit sounded a little like speculation, but Smith is definitely in the loop with this movie.  Does he know more than he’s letting on.  Most likely.

If they are indeed going with a more-than-one-color suit, that automatically makes me happy.  Will they actually go with a yellow belt?  I’d be down, but if they went with a tan-like color to make it more realistic, I might be able to go along with that.  But something tells me they’ll ditch the black trunks, the way they did Superman’s and go with a more ‘New 52’ look.

Does Smith’s reaction make you feel better?  Or would you rather wait to see it yourself before forming an opinion?
