TMZ strikes again.  Two weeks ago, the celebrity tracking website spoke to legendary director Richard Donner who revealed that he was working on a sequel to classic 80s teen adventure film ‘The Goonies’ and that he hoped to bring back the entire surviving cast of the original.

TMZ caught up with Donner again and once more asked him for any info on the upcoming movie and Donner revealed that Steven Spielberg, who co-produced and co-wrote the original movie, was involved and had even initiated plans for a sequel and come up with the story.  Donner states, “Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after thirty years.  It was his idea.  We’ve been trying for a while, and then he came up with another story line. He’s right on.”

But as for the original cast returning, Donner isn’t quite so certain.  “God knows, it’s up to them. If they have any sense they will, if they don’t they won’t.”  Many of the original cast members like Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Martha Plimpton and Corey Feldman are still working actors, but others have left the profession completely.  Would they be willing to return to reprise their iconic roles?

So it sounds as if this project is inching closer to becoming a real thing.  I mean is a movie studio really going to say, “Steven Spielberg wrote a script and wants to make this movie.  Eh, pass!”  But will this simply be a vanity project for these veteran movie makers, or can this film actually deliver and satisfy adults who grew up watching the first movie like everyday on a VHS copy they taped off of HBO?  It’s actually interesting that a sequel never happened before now to be honest.

Are you looking forward to a second ‘Goonies’?  Would you like to see the original cast on another adventure, or should the movie focus on their kids having their own excursion?
