Fans of the Bates family have reason to rejoice as the ‘Bates Motel‘ will be open for a third season! Even with a time change, the show still managed an average of  4.6 million viewers with 2.6 million in the adults aged 18-49 demographics. As it is the network’s top drama in this demographic, it doesn’t seem like the show will be going anywhere if they can keep this up.

The show stars Freddie Highmore (‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’) as Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga (‘The Conjuring‘,’Source Code’) as his mother Norma in a prequel to ‘Psycho’ that tries to explain how exactly it is that Norman is so messed up as he grows older. So far, we’ve been getting quite a few hints at what is going to lead him down the path of madness and murder. Though I do have to say, he has already started to walk down it.

According to the network’s executive vice president David McKillop:

“The incredible writing team and talented Bates Motel cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television. The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”

As we’re still barely scratching the surface of the second season there is no word yet on what direction the plot may be taking next year. While not my favorite horror themed drama on television right now, the series does continue to entertain and is keeping me tuning in each week.
