It had previously been rumored that ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ would feature a mid-credits scene tying this movie to ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron‘, specifically that it would feature the actual onscreen debut of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, respectively. Now that Marvel has begun screening the movie for press, it has been confirmed that both twin mutants appear in a mid-trailer sequence, as prisoners of Baron Von Strucker, possibly portrayed by Thomas Kretschmann.
Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver apparently appears agitated and is zipping around his holding cell. Meanwhile, Olsen as the Scarlet Witch is manipulating some blocks with her “Hex” powers. Strucker makes mention of the fact that the age of “miracles” is upon them, possibly supplying a way around 20th Century Fox’s X-Men/Mutant franchise.

In addition, check out these examples of concept art for the two characters:
Quicksilver will also be played by Evan Peters (‘American Horror Story‘) in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ but since Aaron Taylor-Johnson will appear in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier”s post-credit sequence, that will actually be the first live action take on the character to hit the silver screen.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were among the first heroes recruited to the Avengers after the team’s foundation. The twins are the children of mutant terrorist Magneto. Quicksilver can race at super speed while Scarlet Witch has unpredictable Hex powers. (There is a third sibling, the magnetically powered Lorna/Polaris, who has served with the X-Men sporadically over the years.) Scarlet Witch, in particular, has had a lengthy run with the Avengers, eventually marrying her teammate The Vision, who is also being introduced in ‘Age of Ultron’ and birthing two twins herself, who eventually became Billy and Thomas, a.k.a. Wiccan and Speed of the Young Avengers.
But that may be a ways off. At any rate, are you looking forward to seeing these two heroes join the Avengers? How would you like to see them handled? Sound off in the comments below!
