With the box office success of James Mangold’s ‘The Wolverine‘ and the overall reviews for the film being positive, it was only a matter of time before another sequel for the fan favorite mutant was announced. Now it looks like we might know when that could be slated for as well. While Hugh Jackman (‘Real Steel‘, ‘Pan”) probably won’t be popping his claws for too many more films, he still is signed in for another Wolverine solo feature and when asked about when we might see it Mangold was pretty straight forward about his answer!

According to his Twitter:

While that isn’t necisarily set in stone it sounds like we’re going to be waiting another few yers for the next ‘Wolverine’ stand alone film. If the original 2016 date is to be believed for the release of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ that puts us at 2017 or even 2018 for ‘The Wolverine 2’ to come out. That being said, if the rumor of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ putting the film in the 80’s with mainly the ‘First Class’ cast that could mean that there wouldn’t be a spot for Wolverine in it unless they did some flash forwards to the future requiring both sets of actors once again. A rather pricey way to go depending on how ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ ends up doing at the box office. Depending on what route and scripts they go with it, wouldn’t be impossible to assume that the movies could be filmed at the same time.

The fun aspect that ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ gives us with time travel is that we can now get a Wolverine story from any time period. ‘Old Man Logan’ wouldn’t be off the table.

What do you think about a delay in the next ‘The Wolverine’ film? Are you getting Wolverine overload as is happening in the comics or would another stand alone Wolverine film be just what we need? Which os his stories would be the perfect fit for his next stand alone film? Share your thoughts below!
