For those of you that have been paying pretty close attention, you may recall that I was adequately freaked out by the 2012 film ‘Sinister’ from director Scott Derrickson that featured Ethan Hawke as a true-crime writer who finds himself in a killer story akin to one of his novels. Now, the filmmaker who also brought us ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ and ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ is preparing for the release of his latest movie called ‘Deliver Us From Evil’.

Formerly known as ‘Beware The Night’, this new horror film based on an NYPD officer’s real life cases finds Eric Bana and Edgar Ramírez teaming up as a cop and a priest brought together by a demonic possession. Recently, Apple released the first trailer for the movie, which starts out like a generic horror movie trailer, but then slows down to give that freaky feel that Derrickson is so good at doing. You can check it out below, followed by the official synopsis:

New York police officer Ralph Sarchie, struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest, schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. Inspired by the book, which details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

Like I said before, super freaky. If it’s anything like the director’s last movie, then ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ should make for a pretty jumpy night at the cinema followed by some gnarly nightmares.
