Mike Marts has become the latest DC creator to switch over to rival Marvel.  Marts has served as the editor of the ‘Batman’ line of comics for the past seven years.  His move apparently has to do with last year’s announcement that DC was completely transferring to the West Coast and expected its executives to relocate as well.  (Creative talent is unaffected, as most creators live all around the world and communicate and submit scripts and art electronically.)

At Marvel, Marts will assume the role of Executive Editor, but it was not announced what projects he would work on.  It was also not announced who would take his position as the ‘Batman’ editor at DC.

Marts previously worked for Marvel overseeing the ‘X-Men’ franchise for ten years from 1996 to 2006.

Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso issued a statement welcoming Marts, calling him “a seasoned veteran who’s edited some of the most critically acclaimed and highest-selling series of the last decade… I’m overjoyed to see him return home.”

I’m sure there will be additional announcements of shakeups at DC as I’m certain there are other staffers who will not be making the transition to the West Coast.

Are you sad to see him go, or are you looking forward to whatever Marvel projects he takes on?
