The fans have spoken and the Transformers are about to gain a new member… Windblade.  Created with input by fans on Hasbro’s official website, Windblade features a kabuki based appearance, fitting since the Transformers were originally Japanese toys imported to be sold in the US.  She slings a mean Tornado Blade and transforms into a VTOL jet and the final color scheme and styling were finalized by the Hasbro design team.

Windblade will be released as part of the 2014 Generations toy line and will also star in a comic book miniseries from IDW, created by Mairghread Scott and Sarah Stone, the first all female creative team to ever work on the franchise.  This year makes the franchise’s 30 year anniversary.

The character has one of the most human faces in the line, so that’s unique.  It’s honestly unique to have a female member of the team, although she isn’t the first.  The best known female Transformer is Arcee (either a motorcycle or a hover car depending on the format), but there have been others like Chromia and Elita One.

Here’s the official look of Windblade:

While I think she looks pretty cool, the last time I tried transforming a Transformer, it wound up as a worthless pile of neither robot nor vehicle.  Sorry, too complicated and the instructions suck!  (No words, just vague drawings… worse than IKEA!)  But this one looks pretty cool… maybe I’ll get it and pay an eight year-old to transform it for me.

What do you think?  Are you ready for a dose of girl power in the Transformers collection?  Do you think Windblade makes a good fit?  Comment below!
